Our Vision
The Mentoring Center is dedicated to assisting all mentees by facilitating the knowledge and skills necessary for advancement in their academic fields, professional development, and entrepreneurial endeavors.
Our Mission
We believe that effective communication and the exchange of real-world experiences are critical for success. Therefore, our goal is to bring together researchers, academics, professionals, and students from various fields to facilitate this essential knowledge sharing.
Mentor role
Share a detailed career narrative (career path, experiences, and lessons learned) to provide the mentee with real-world perspective.
Provide motivational, emotional, and practical support, serving as a trusted role model.
Assist the mentee in exploring potential careers, setting measurable goals, and effectively identifying and utilizing key resources.
Establish clear, explicit goals and objectives for the mentorship alongside the mentee at the outset of the relationship.
Lead and drive the relationship while ensuring the mentee retains full responsibility for their own growth, development, and planning.
Maintain accountability by proactively ending the mentorship at the mutually agreed-upon time.
Mentee role
Clearly communicate your needs by sharing your ideas, concerns, and professional goals with your mentor.
Take the lead in scheduling and contact. You are responsible for initiating all communication and proposing a mutually agreeable plan for sessions.
Be prepared for every session. Arrive on time, establish the agenda for the conversation, and provide a brief update on your progress since the last meeting.
Send discussion topics in advance via email if you think it will help your mentor prepare for the session.
Take notes. Actively capture ideas, insights, and action items during each session to maximize your learning.
Ask direct and specific questions. Ensure the conversation meets your personal needs and developmental goals. You are primarily responsible for directing the session content.
Respect your mentor's time and boundaries. Since your mentor is a volunteer with limited time, ensure conversations start and end punctually.
Both mentor and mentee should ensure that they:
Ensure a Good Fit: Both parties must confirm they are comfortable proceeding. The mentor must proactively ensure they possess the necessary skills and experience to effectively support the mentee's goals.
Agree on Confidentiality: Establish a clear understanding and agreement on the level of confidentiality required within the mentoring relationship.
Prepare for Meetings: Both the mentor and mentee must come prepared to each meeting, with clear expectations and ground rules established. (The mentee is responsible for arranging all meeting logistics.)
Build Trust and Respect: Adhere to all agreed-upon ground rules and commitments to foster mutual trust and respect throughout the duration of the relationship.
Evaluate and Conclude: Close the relationship at the mutually agreed-upon time. The mentee should formally evaluate their development against the initial objectives, and both parties should reflect and share feedback on the process.
